As a summer law student at AutoCanada, I assisted the In-House Counsel team with legal projects related to a wide variety of practice areas. Throughout my time, I had the opportunity to strengthen my skills in conducting legal research, policy drafting, and reviewing provincial/federal statutes. Some examples included reviewing consumer protection, competition, and French language laws, analyzing proxy advisor reports, and synthesizing provincial lien requirements. I had the honour of working closely with the General Counsel on each project and received valuable, constructive feedback throughout the process.Furthermore, I also had the pleasure of being involved with the National GC Network (NGCN), an incredible program dedicated to supporting BIPOC students early in their legal careers. I applied for and received this opportunity from the NGCN, which also hosted events throughout the summer. These events allowed me to network with lawyers and students while providing insight into some emerging topics in the legal profession.

As a Residence Don, I am responsible for working alongside other student leaders to oversee a floor in Ontario Hall and provide support and programming for the building as a whole. There are approximately 40 students on my floor and, alongside the Sophs (student leaders), I provide academic and social support while also planning events to build a strong floor and building community. Furthermore, I work with the other Dons to respond to various on-call situations ranging from simple lock changes to other serious emergencies. Much of this role also includes working alongside my Residence Life Coordinator (supervisor) to regularly reflect on my year and get constructive feedback on how to improve as a Residence Don and how to continue building upon my skills for future jobs and opportunities.

As a summer intern, I worked with the Accounting and Project Management and Process Improvement departments to improve workflows while also performing other administrative tasks. My main work involved talking to employees and using workplace documents to create process maps in Visio for review as well as learning how to effectively use Excel to present data and consolidate information for future use. These were used to inform decisions on implementing a new workflow management system and expense reporting software. Additionally, I worked closely with the accounting department to perform smaller duties such as expense reporting, organizing files, and finding discrepancies in billings and payments.

As lifeguard and swimming instructor, I was committed to helping students learn and become effective swimmers. By using resources and asking questions to supervisors, I developed lesson plans tailored for each class with the goal of helping every student in ways that fit their individual needs. This was accompanied by providing continuous feedback to students and parents while also incorporating feedback from supervisors into my own classes. As well, I helped mentor junior instructors in their development as lifeguards by providing them opportunities to lead and helping them learn from these experiences. Additionally, the role requires strong team skills whether it be guarding a fun swim or having multiple instructors working with one group of students during a lesson block.

As an Event Coordinator I was in charge of supervising a weekly adult sports league on the day of their games. This involved setup and takedown of equipment at the beginning and end of shifts as well as explaining the rules and regulations to participants. Additionally, should any conflict arise I was responsible for mediating between the parties involved and coming to a consensus on appropriate next steps. Overall, I looked to create an inclusive, fun, and welcoming environment for all individuals by building relationships and providing a positive customer experience.
