I am a professor of chemistry at the University at Buffalo. We research sustainable methods and reagents that can be used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds, intermediates, and precursors. I am originally from Southern California and the Colorado front range area, and someday I hope to return. In the meantime, here in Buffalo, I enjoy learning about new chemistry and how it intersects with society, interspersed with disc golf, and beach days when I can get them. While my expertise are in fundamental aspects of coordination chemistry and applications in synthesis, I am excited to learn new fields of chemistry such as materials chemistry, medicinal chemistry, energy related science, and atmospheric and environmental chemistry. I firmly believe that, while fundamental chemistry is important, the application of chemistry to society and how it benefits humankind is paramount and that is where my passion for chemistry has arrived.My research has been supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Foundation (ACS PRF), and the National Institutes of Health. In addition to awards that have recognized my career, my research is published in international peer reviewed scientific journals.My teaching experience at the University at Buffalo includes inorganic and organometallic chemistry and general chemistry to both undergraduates and graduate students. I have graduated six PhD students, and I am currently mentoring six additional graduate students toward advanced degrees (M.S. and/or PhD).
