David has spent the past sixteen years building CSIRO’s research capability in water informatics which is now internationally recognised as world’s best practice.Under his stewardship the former Water Informatics Stream:- produced the first one-second (30m) Digital Elevation Model of Australia- developed the highly successful Water Data Transfer Format for the Bureau of Meteorology- investigated the use of Model Driven Architecture approaches for the management of information models and the use of scientific workflows for supporting hydrological research- led the development of WaterML2.0 standard which has now been adopted by a number of international organisations. This standard has also been endorsed as an official component of the Civil Earth Observation Strategy of the Federal Government of the United States- developed the sophisticated information model that underpins the Australian Hydrological Geospatial Fabric (Geofabric), a specialised geographical information system that shows the links between important features of Australia’s water system- developed methods for exploiting provenance information.
