Working in Space and Astronomy Division of CSIRO. My team and I manage the onsite operations of The Parkes Observatory, just outside the central-west NSW town of Parkes, which hosts Murriyang, the 64-metre Parkes radio telescope, one of the telescopes comprising CSIRO’s Australia Telescope National Facility. An icon of Australian science, Murriyang has been in operation since 1961 and continues to be at the forefront of astronomical discovery thanks to regular upgrades. Astronomers from across Australia and around the world utilise Murriyang to undertake world-class astronomical science. Also known as ’the Dish’, the telescope operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

My role is managing a team of 14 staff supporting three schools in the university for their IT needs in specialist teaching, research and engagement. The schools of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics, School of Humanities and Communication Arts and School of Medicine are our current clients and we manage their specialist teaching and Research systems. My team is part of the Academic and Campus Experience division and we work in partnership with academics, technical services and administration staff to ensure that students and researchers get timely bespoke solutions to their problems, while ensuring wider ITDS policies, process and security are maintained or controlled .

My role supervises a multi-disciplinary technical staff supporting teaching in a range of areas including but not limited to photomedia, media production, languages, music, digital and convergent media, and TESOL. It includes providing advice to the School Manager and Dean on the technical and resource requirements. My roll manages a range of digital and convergent media facilities. These include a media production studio, outside broadcast van, related servers, specialist computing laboratories, music recording and post-production studios, digital editing suites and a broadcast newsroom. I prepare submissions for the Dean on the strategic development of technical facilities and specialised budgets with submissions for capital equipment. The position monitors the School’s technical budget and ensures that all purchases comply with University Policies and ProceduresDelivered Music Building refurbishment project -$3 million project. Refurbishment turned a book printery into live recording studios, teaching studio both with separate recording booths. ten rehearsal rooms, computer labs, tutorial rooms and offices.Completed move of School design and Media Arts program from Penrith to Parramatta. This involved the design and commissioning of TV Studio with control room, Photo Studio , Media edit suites, high performance computer labs, and specialist teaching Spaces

In 2013, BAI, working in partnership with the NSW Telco Authority, took over the operations and maintenance of the NSW Government Radio Network (NSWGRN), one of the world’s largest government radio networks, consisting of approximately 160 sites with 30,000 users from 30 government agencies and departments.The role covers:• Manage NSW GRN communications on behalf of emergency service agencies such as Police, Fire services, Rural Fire Services , State Emergency Services, and other government agencies clients.• Monitor Planned Outages at transmission sites and liaise with clients on disruptions and fault resolutions.• Remotely fault find and resolve transmission issues via remote telemetry.• Co-ordinate ‘first In maintainers” and field technical staff to resolve transmission issues. • Proactively review fault histories to analyze fault trends and coordinate field technical staff to investigate and report. • Develop and modify documentation for use in the operations centre as reference and training material

Marathon Targets is experiencing a period of rapid growth and were developing new and innovative systems. My role was in the assembly of subsystems and robots for their production run of T40 autonomous target dummy systems for delivery to their clients.

BarNet is a specialist communications management company providing services to Barristers and associated Law professionals. Barnet provided data and voice communications and IT support to the community. Key Responsibilities• Managed the support desk function and provide 2nd and 3 rd level support.• Developed, design, procured and install new facilities for BarNet. • Support and maintained existing data centre production systems and network.• Support multi site VoIP Telephony system for clients. • Developed strategic and operational plans for technology change• Develop Disaster recovery process and systems to ensure maximum uptime of production systems.• Pre-Sales Engineer supporting Business Development Director to obtain new clients and upgrade current clients.Equipment supported: Cisco SIP Phones, Cisco PABX, Cisco routers, microwave links, Apple Mac desktops and laptops, Windows - desktops, server 2008 - Active directory, storage, Exchange mail system , Windows laptops, Linux servers - storage, OpenLDAP, Mail, Virtual Web Servers, iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, Android Phones, Photocopiers and printers.

I reported to the Director of Technology and Infrastructure (T & I). I managed the department responsible for designing, maintenance, upgrades, and replacement of film, television, radio and Audio Visual systems used around the school. My department also provide special project management to the rest of the division as required by the Director. I have represented the division at senior executive meetings in the absence of my Director and I have been the designated acting Head of the Division when he has been on holidays. Due to my experiences in Engineering and IT I also project managed IT and Engineering projects. I manage a team of nine staff within my departmentAchievements• Engineered and Project managed technical fit out of AFTRS’s new $48 million dollar purpose built building. Technical fit out capital budget was $7 million dollars. Project had tight time frames and was only three months late and on budget on a three year project. • Implemented a student management enterprise management system, which replacing a number of old disparate electronic and paper based systems. Budget $400 000, came under budget and only one month late according to schedule • Project managed, design and implemented experimental collaboration media classrooms with CSIRO. My responsibilities included Information technology, knowledge management, Contracts and leases, cemeteries, telecommunications and mobile phone fleet, photocopying and publishing, Freedom of information. I was also designated as the Council's public officer and managed a staff of eight.

Reporting to General Manager. The Director of Corporate Services was Council’s principal finance and administration officer, exercising overall management responsibility for the operations of the Corporate Services Division. The corporate services division comprised the following departments Finance, Risk Management, Human Resources, and Information Services. As Acting Director of Corporate Services I was responsible for 23 Staff. I was also responsible for an annual expenditure budget of 4 million dollars and a revenue Budget of $12 million dollars. While acting manager I was responsible for developing and implementing the strategic management plan for the Corporate Services Division

Reporting to General Manager. MPSC underwent internal restructuring resulting in an overall reduction of staff numbers with an increase in services. As a result of these structural changes the Information Technology department was integrated within the larger Information Services area and my roles and duties were extended to deal more efficiently with the tasks required. I gained responsibility for six additional staff, taking the total number to eight with duties in various areas including Information Technology, Customer Services, Records Management, Cemetery Administration, Freedom of Information (FOI) and Contract Administration. I became the team leader for Economic Development Initiatives.

Reporting to Director of Corporate Services. Moree Plains Shire Council had a staff of 290 and used a variety of communication and computer hardware and software systems. There were some major structural and system changes shortly after I arrived. The existing technology installed into Council was delivering a marginal service at best and required a total system rebuild of all systems and a redesign of workflows. There was a significant lack of trust in the computer systems and the IT department throughout Council, which had to be rebuilt. The initial staff of two Information Technology Officers had varying degrees of skills and experience, which needed to be developed through a comprehensive training program. I had to learn about, manage, and maintain a specialised integrated Financial/Property system (Authority). I had to learn about, manage, and maintain the records maintenance system. I restructured the e-mail system based on Lotus Notes to make it work more effectively.

Reporting to Cumberland IT Manager and Community Newspapers Group IT Manager. Cumberland Newspapers produced 18 separate Community Newspapers on a varied production schedule resulting in over 40 individual newspaper editions of the various papers printed each week. Transferred to Cumberland Newspapers at a time when the IT & T department were experiencing difficulties in delivering Pre-Press services to the company. I managed the Cybergraphic newspaper system, and the Open Prepress Interface (OPI) Unix system. I implemented a number of immediate changes to improve the efficiency of production systems.

Reported to the General Manager of North Queensland Newspaper Company and State Information Technology & Telecommunications Manager in Brisbane. Provided 24-hour, 7 days a week support to all business systems. I managed all of NQN’s Telecommunications and computer systems. I rebuilt a small, demoralised IT&T department through improved training and more efficient production systems.

Reported to the IT Manager. I ensured that all production systems could support both current operational requirements and future business goals as required by IT&T Manager and General Manager. I ensured maximum “up” time to all systems involved in the production of the Sunday Times Newspaper. I provided 24 hour, 7 day-a-week support to all production systems. This included all associated peripheral systems, networks, and telephone systems. I trained and supervised staff to support production systems. I created capital budgets for production systems to meet company requirements.

I reported to the Shift Engineer Supervisor. I resolved major system problems in the absence of the Senior Engineer. I ensured maximum ‘up’ time to the Sunday Times production equipment and associated peripheral systems. I trained to resolve technical problems and to make business critical decisions under strict deadline pressure
