This is a shift role that is responsible for real time management of the casting schedule and hot metal control. There is a heavy reliance upon effective interdepartmental communication to achieve operational outcomes that involves slabmaking departments, the blast furnace and Pacific National. My responsibilities include:• Technical knowledge of each operational unit including all slabmaking departments, the blast furnace and Pacific National locomotives.• Implement and manage the casting schedule to deliver customer requirements within the operational bounds of each operational department.• Frequent and effective communication with other departments to implement the schedule and manage schedule changes.• Manage pre cast out of specification steel.• Hot metal and torpedo ladle management including assigning locomotives jobs. The primary goal is to ensure empty torpedo ladles under a casting blast furnace taphole and ensuring sufficient hot metal on the BOS weighbridge to achieve the casting schedule.• Complex decision making regarding managing hot metal in torpedo ladles and slabmaking plan changes. This includes meeting grade specifications by ensuring the correct specification hot metal on the BOS weighbridge to achieve casting schedule.• Managing operational outages including giving approval to start work.

This is a technical coordinator supervisor position overseeing all aspects of the production control center with 4 direct reports. There is a heavy reliance on interdepartmental and intradepartmental communication to achieve operational outcomes. My responsibilities included:• Technical knowledge of each operational unit including all slabmaking departments, the blast furnace, Pacific National locomotives, the hot strip mill and the plate mill.• Communication with a wide range of different departments to determine customer requirements and determine how these can be most efficiently met by slabmaking.• Communication with maintenance departments to manage the timing of plant outages to ensure minimal impact on production• Working with a team to set direction and manage operation outcomes and ultimately aim to achieve 100% DP for slabmaking. This also includes setting individual outcomes and performance management.• Casting schedule management including planned stock management for plant outages.• Drive cost saving projects involving multiple departments. This included a successful project to reduce consumable and waste steel in slabmaking.• Inventory and order management including communication with customer advocates.

Slab Caster Process Controller (2014)The Slab Caster continuously casts steel for rolling by downstream customers. I became fully accredited in the process coordinator position in the final year of my cadetship and was performing the role to full capacity. I was responsible for coordinating safe casting operations with the aim of close adherence to casting schedule with high yield and slab quality. This role involves significant process knowledge, communication and people management.Production Planning and Scheduling Steelmaking Cadet (2013)Production Planning and Scheduling Steelmaking coordinates the steelmaking supply chain on a day-to-day basis, facilitates future planning and manages slab inventory. I was heavily involved in a number of key projects, most notably the Slab Handling Slab Processing Improvement project which saw significant improvement in ensuring the correct slabs are processed on time for downstream customers. This role involved logistics management, long term planning and communication.Full Time University Study (2012)Steel Treatment Process Cadet (2011)Steel Treatment processes steel from the BOS for casting at the Slab Caster. I was involved in managing the steel ladle fleet and a number of projects associated with steel ladle condition and maintenance. This role involved process flow understanding, technical data analysis and report generation.Slab Yard Cadet (2010)The Slab Yard serves a logistical function managing the flow of slab from the Slab Caster to downstream customers. I was responsible for the on-time delivery of slab to Westernport and had significant involvement in managing export slab delivery to the berth. This role involved logistics management, process improvement and people management.
