David is a Professor at the University of Exeter Medical School and Director of Research and Impact at the Departments of Health and Community Sciences and Health and Care Professions. He is also a Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute, the national institute for data science and AI, and holds an honorary contract with Devon Partnership NHS Trust. His research aims to harness the power of data science and machine learning to enhance dementia research. He sits on Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Grant Review Board and their Clinical Policy Advisory Panel. He also sits on the Alzheimer's Society's Grant Review Board and is an Editor for the journal Alzheimer's Research & Therapy. David is also the Exeter Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (IDSAI) Clinical Theme Lead and the Turing Exeter University Clinical Lead. He sits on the Steering Committee and leads the Clinical Advisory Group of the Early Detection of Neurodegeneration (EDoN) Initiative. In 2022 he founded the Alan Turing Institute Interest Group in Precision Dementia Medicine and the ISTAART Professional Interest Area in AI for Precision Dementia Medicine. He is also Director of the Deep Dementia Phenotyping (DEMON) Network (demondementia.com) an international platform for innovation and the application of data science and AI to dementia research with over 1,500 members, which he founded in 2019.
