I was appointed Chief Executive of the National Heart Foundation of Australia in June 2022, following a career focussed on cultural and strategic leadership in complex environments in healthcare, medical research, and higher education, and including 25 years as a COO / CEO working with major organisations within these sectors. I am reminded of the importance of the National Heart Foundation as one of Australia’s most recognised and respected organisations every day; and emboldened by its more than 60-year legacy, my focus in leading this wonderful organisation is on creating generational change over the next 25 years. I want the generation of Australians who turn 50 in 2050 to have the lowest rates of heart disease and the least risk of dying from it of any generation before them. Areas of interest include the role of medical research in our battle against heart disease, health equity, and the importance of making a healthy lifestyle accessible to everyone, whatever their situation. Off duty I also have a strong but strictly amateur interest in endurance sport. I am concurrently Vice President (Elect) of the World Heart Federation in Geneva; and Chair of the East Timor Hearts Fund, an Australian charity focussed on providing Timor Leste with support in responding to that country’s very high rates of rheumatic heart disease. I was founding Chairman of Artolution Inc, a New York based charity supporting refugee communities around the world to deal with trauma through collaborative public art projects.
