Substantial experience in the commercial banking industry has provided me with a quality—real world education on business and leadership. Beyond my exposure to a myriad of business models, and deep engagement in the technical aspects of capital management and finance, I have learned a lot about people, teams, communities, and the power of collaborative and values-based leadership. All of this has led me to my current position as the Chief Financial Officer of The Children’s Foundation. The Foundation, an independent community foundation for children, is the largest funder dedicated solely to advancing the health and wellness of children in the state of Michigan. Through fundraising, grant-making and advocacy, The Children’s Foundation enables researchers and community organizations to identify and implement innovation capable of advancing children’s health and wellness. In addition to overseeing the financial stewardship of the Foundation, I work with the leadership team to develop and execute strategic partnerships which help drive our mission forward, and deepen our impact.Since 2011, the Foundation has distributed over $75 million in grant funding to more than 140 partners engaged in pediatric research, medical education, and community benefit throughout the state. Current areas of programmatic focus for the Foundation include pediatric oncology and cardiology research, mental health, nutritional wellness, abuse and neglect, and injury prevention. The Foundation’s impact has been profound, as highlighted in our 2018 impact report (the link to which may be found below).I have been blessed with an awesome wife and family, dear and loyal friends, supportive business associates, talented co-workers, and a diverse set of professional experiences which have provided a lifetime of continuous learning.
