As a full professor with twenty years of successful experience in teaching, field research, advising, and program administration, I have consistently implemented innovative strategies to support the academic growth of my students and to encourage productive change in educational strategies. At UWEC, I have served in leadership roles in the English Department, Bachelor of Liberal Studies Program, the University Honors Program, and as a Campus Fellow for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity.My teaching is focused in several areas, including 20th century American literature and cultural studies, social justice movements in US cultural history, African American literature, history of popular music, and Honors education.Current and future goals include providing exceptional leadership for the English Studies Graduate Program at UW-Eau Claire, supporting the university's efforts to enhance success of underrepresented students, and advocating for the transformative power of higher education.I have a number of publications in print, including the following:"From Good Intentions to Educational Equity: Occupying Honors through Inclusive Excellence." Davey J's Garage is a tiny independent venue for music and film. Sales of acoustic guitars and amplifiers are also sponsored on an ongoing basis at Davey J's Garage. Event production and support for film projects are also functions of this new, promising business venture.

As owner of B Major Productions, I produce live music events and creative media, such as original music CDs. The emphasis is on quality over quanitity, to put on distinctive live music shows and to produce CD recordings that are artistically and emotionally compelling, including blues, rock and roll, American folk and roots music. Under the stage name "Davey J," I perform live music in varied settings and produce original music as a solo artist and bandleader. During more than 20 years of performance on the creative music scene in Wisconsin and Minnesota, I have released four CDs of original music and have played in settings such as the Tuesday Night Blues Series in Eau Claire, Blues on the Chippewa festival in Durand, WI, and the Millstream Arts Festival in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Our live shows feature down-home singing and songwriting, song choices for all seasons (from blues to rock and roll, reggae, and roots music), and a very distinctive sound of acoustic-electric guitar that everyone in the house can feel. Taught a series of courses at the Minneapolis campus, including Poetry and Everyday Life, Diversity, Democracy, and Social Participation, and the Short Story.

I taught a range of courses, including a series called "A Life in Art," which explored the legacy of individual artists of all media, including June Jordan, Paul Robeson, and James Baldwin. I also taught a course titled "The Literature of Generation X" as well as composition courses.

Taught courses in African American literature, college writing, and worked in academic advising and support for at-risk students.

Taught ninth and tenth grade English curriculum and contributed to social and personal development for high school students in my classes. Also founded and advised the creative writing club for the school.
