David is an actor, writer, and director. David is a co-founder of {YNH} and was the originator of the concept for a formidable queer theater company that is rooted in the theatrical establishment of New York City. David discovered his artistic voice through a year abroad in Granada, Spain studying the Spanish language, Spanish poetry, and literature (of particular influence, Federico García Lorca’s Bodas de Sangre and Antonio Buero Vallejo’s Historia de una escalara). David began his professional study of acting with Freehold Theatre in Seattle, WA, under the tutelage of John Billingsley (co-producing and acting in Homefree! by Lanford Wilson), followed by roles in independent film (The Road, Odessa Sleeps). David has taught acting in the juvenile prison system at Echo Glenn Children’s Center, Snoqualmie, WA, under the leadership of Peg Phillips (Northern Exposure), and worked with youth-at-risk in a residency at Out North Contemporary Art House, in Anchorage, AK. David is a graduate of the University of Washington, earning a B.A. in communications, with an independent study in media ethics and children’s programming; and studied at The Actor’s Studio M.F.A. program, most notably with Bill Coco, Elizabeth Kemp and Barbara Poitier. David spent his formative years in New York City interning at Big Art Group under Linsey Bostwick and Caden Manson; and studying the models of theater companies he admires, Labyrinth Theater Company and the work of James Houghton at the Signature Theatre. The Public Theater and Joe Papp’s work there is model for David’s exploration of what makes an accessible theater for the people.
