Hello, I'm David Maldonado, M.Ed., and I'm deeply passionate about making a positive impact in higher education. My journey began as a non-traditional student at Northampton Community College, where I navigated the challenges of balancing full-time work with my studies. This unique experience not only shaped my resilience but also ignited my desire to achieve greatness and focus on leadership. It opened my eyes to the transformative power of community colleges for students from diverse backgrounds, particularly those from lower-class backgrounds and non-traditional paths.Upon graduating from Northampton in Spring 2020, I transitioned to Shippensburg University to pursue my bachelor's degree in Psychology. There, I continued to develop my leadership skills as a resident assistant, supporting residential needs and encouraging learning and development among my peers. This role was pivotal in sparking my passion for student affairs and laid the foundation for my future career in higher education.In the fall of 2022, I embarked on a master's degree program at Clemson University. During my academic pursuits, I had the privilege of working as a graduate community director (GCD) for Clemson Home. This role allowed me to navigate critical aspects of student life, including conduct, residential curriculum development, and supervision. Being at Clemson also provided me with invaluable opportunities to network and engage with professional organizations outside my institution, such as ACUHO-I and SACSA. These experiences have been instrumental in shaping my skills and perspective as a student affairs professional, and I am forever grateful for the professional development opportunities and support I received.Today, I am honored to serve as a residence hall director at Old Dominion University. In this role, I have the privilege of supervising both student and graduate staff. Since May 2024, I have gained significant experience in managing residential communities and facilities coordination. This new experience has been both challenging and rewarding, and I am eager to continue learning and growing in my profession.As I navigate this new phase of my career beyond graduate school, I am keen to connect with new mentors and seek sponsorships.
