Focus on taxation of mining in emerging and developing economies.

Expert on economic and governance analysis on mining issues in developing countries.I focus primarily on taxation in the petroleum and mineral industries with secondary experience on issues relating to licensing, local content, national oil companies, revenue management, domestic energy markets, and the corresponding governance challenges in these areas.My current research interests include the implications of climate change and stranded assets on resource-rich countries, and the management of commodity price risk across the extractive resource decision chain.Notable projects include: - Natural Resource Charter second edition text, a set of guiding principles endorsed by the a growing group of resource-rich countries, donor agencies and the IMF and World Bank. - Natural Resource Charter Benchmarking Framework. A tool to support governments and civil society organisations to undertake their own assessment of extractive resource governance in their countries, - Training courses at the University of Oxford, Blavatnik School of Government; Central European University; and other ad hoc teaching events.

As part of the Overseas Development Institute Fellowship scheme, I was a technical assistant in the research department of the Zambian Revenue Authority.I focused on building expertise in mining taxation and provided: - in-depth analysis using modelling and statistical techniques; and - short-term responses to internal management, national government and global institution research requests.I undertook further investigation into policy issues across the whole economy both at the macro level and sectorally.Finally, I developed and maintained large-scale databases, models and other quantitative tools to support internal tax audit operations.

I lectured for a first-year undergraduate course in macroeconomics primarily in monetary and international economics. For this I have written my own lecture pack that forms the primary source of reference for students. I also hold tutorial classes for the course.

I specialised in economic issues related to the wholesale financial services sectors working for clients such as UK HM Treasury, European Commission, national industry bodies, and various stock exchanges and clearing houses.
