In the field, I am responsible for laying out Bridges, Roads and buildings. This includes all aspects of the job including, but not limited to: storm, sanitary, water, ditches, & ponds. My position requires me to quickly read and understand plans, specifications, INDOT standard drawings, & our scope of work for multiple projects at the same time. On an average day I am responsible for managing 1 to 2 other people with my primary goal being to give the contractor exactly what they need to get the job done while keeping my company on budget on time.In the office I am the CAD Manager, Head Draftsman, and IT support. As the CAD Manager, I make sure that our templates and standards are constantly moving forward with the hope that we will minimize the time needed to perform everyday tasks. Most of my drafting work falls in three categories as-builts, point preparation for field work, or quantities. Lastly, when it comes to IT support, I have never met a challenge that I was not excited to tackle. Admittedly some have been too far outside of my expertise to handle, but the adventure in seeking an answer has always been fun.

This was my first job in the engineering field. I had a chance to experience the planning, engineering, and surveying departments. In the planning department my job was to transfer a paper sketch of a property, usually subdivisions, into autocad. After the lots were drawn, I would calculate the building setbacks, easements, and acreage. The fun part of the planning department was making the exhibits to show things like the acreage of storm water retention or green space.While I was in the engineering department I focused more on the placement of utilities and drainage. While I was not responsible for the design of the projects, I was able to learn what type of information should be available in a set of plans.I enjoyed the survey department the most. I think it was because the work here seemed to have the quickest pace. I always had a stack of work that needed to be completed. They were typically either preliminary or final surveys for the subdivision lots that our company had engineered.
