Responsible for system administration, maintenance, and upgrades related to a proprietary UNIX-based media server providing video-on-demand services for Cablevision subscribers. This device was developed and manufactured by a joint venture a Stanford University based engineering consortium (responsible for the development of the modem) and (DTV Grand Alliance member) The Sarnoff Corporation. The system utilized Quadrature Amplitude Modulation signals (64 QAM version on 550 MHZ to 750 MHZ carrier range) for 8 video streams utilizing 6 MHZ of down-stream spectrum, an out-of-band Quadrature Phase Shift Keyed (89 MHZ carrier) signal utilizing 1 MHZ of down-stream spectrum initiating a two-way exchange session between the customer and the head-end equipment, and the Binary Phase Shift Keying (5 to 42 MHZ carrier) signal utilizing 250 kHz of up-stream spectrum for customer requests to the system.
