Having started out as a reporter for Caribbean Times in the 1990s I've been a "storyteller" for some 25 years and written for myriad newspapers and publications, including the OBSERVER, SUNDAY TIMES, GQ and ESQUIRE. I have interviewed a cornucopia of characters from war criminals, pop stars, heroes and villains to countless ordinary people with extraordinary stories to tell. I specialise in human interest, biography and narrative nonfiction with an acute focus on subcultures, crime, race, current affairs, sport and politics. Having authored five critically-acclaimed books, including my debut, LOOKING FOR A FIGHT (shortlisted for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year), and my latest tome, VOICES OF THE WINDRUSH GENERATION, writing engaging, entertaining and provocative long-form narrative is what gets me out of bed in the morning. I have ghosted and edited several other titles, including LETHAL FORCE (the memoir of controversial former police marksman, Tony Long) and OUT OF THE ASHES and TRIBES - both of which I penned for Tottenham MP and Shadow Foreign Secretary, David Lammy. I am currently working on my next authored book, GANG LONDON. In front of and behind the camera, I have presented and produced several groundbreaking and award-winning documentaries, including THE TROUBLE WITH BLACK MEN (BBC3), SOUTH AFRICA: SHOOT TO KILL (CURRENT TV), BATTY MAN (C4), GANG LIFE (BBC2), MICHAEL JOHNSON: SURVIVAL OF THE FASTEST (C4), HUTCH: HIGH SOCIETY’S FAVOURITE GIGOLO (C4), GANGLAND (C5), THE SEX BUSINESS (C5), SECRETS OF A POLICE MARKSMAN (C4) and BLACK NURSES: THE WOMEN WHO SAVED THE NHS (BBC4). A Fellow of Central Saint Martins, I have lectured at UAL, the University of Westminster, Middlesex University and Lambeth College in the UK; Borups Hojskole, Denmark; Delta State University in the US; and trained journalists, writers and filmmakers in diverse locations such as Kenya, Sierra Leone and Australia. As an artist-collaborator I have worked with several award-winning artists on thought-provoking works for leading galleries and exhibitions, including the Museum in Docklands, Harewood House, Birmingham Arts Centre and The Lock-Up in Newcastle, Australia.Given my expertise, experience and unparalleled skillset, I am often engaged as a media consultant and creative director for international public and private sector clients, with assignments ranging from working with the UN’s Special Court for Sierra Leone to the Malaysia-based Roundtable On Sustainable Palm Oil to broadcast giant, Viacom.

The philosophy behind DAC at CSM is linked to a practice-led socially responsive (1) design research agenda that posits crime as a theme that can be addressed by methodologies generated by ‘social design’ (2) (also referred to as ‘Socially Useful Design’ or ‘Design for Society’) (3). Both memoir and call-to-arms, Tribes explores both the benign and malign effects of our need to belong. How this need – genetically programmed and socially acquired – can manifest itself in positive ways, collaboratively achieving great things that individuals alone cannot.
