Advised on Business Development in Europe, Middle-East and North AfricaThe Gowan companies are a privately owned group of businesses mainly engaged in various aspects of agribusiness including fertilizers, seeds, crop protection products, services and related products.

Principal roles were as assessor of grant & investment applications for biotechnology projects & mentor for several entrepreneurs that NESTA invested with (Picosorb, BlueGnome, Cytox). Also had a role as an advisor on mentoring, & on medical biotechnology investments.

ProKyma Ltd. is a new company using ultrasound technology developed by the UK Defence Ministry for military purposes & now being exploited for civilian use in medical & food applications. Role was that of independent non-Executive Director.

Alaska Food Diagnostics was a new company using technology developed by the UK Defence Ministry for military purposes exploiting it for civilian use in the food industry to rapidly diagnose the presence of harmful bacteria. Role was that of independent non-Executive Director.

Avidis (now Imaxio) is a new company using Medical Research Council & Cambridge University technology for recombinant protein expression, folding & design to develop novel therapeutics in endocrinology & metabolism. Role was as Member of the Supervisory Council.

Kellantis was a new diagnostics company at the Paris Bio-Incubator using solid phase cytometry to detect rare cellular events such as metastatic cancer cells, HPV infected cervical cells, & fetal cells in maternal blood. Role was business advisor & mentor to the scientist founder.

Funded principally by Apax Partners, London, Sense Proteomic developed immobilized functional protein arrays for pharmaceutical research. Role was that of independent non-Executive Director. Sense Proteomic was sold to Procognia Ltd in December 2002.

Over a 32 year period, various business assignments in Australia, USA, Taiwan, Singapore, Switzerland and France, in different roles in Life Science businesses with increasing levels of responsibility over time.
