Plan and manage the transfer of petroleum products between barges, ships, and facilities in accordance with safety standards and regulations. Monitor and perform gauging as necessary to maintain proper product levels in tanks. Effectively communicate with customer crews and personnel regarding all aspects of the transfer process, to ensure safe cargo operations. Accurately complete and maintain job related documentation, including customer bill of ladings, barge logs, DOI’s, and BDN’s. Operate and perform routine maintenance on all systems and operational aspects of the barge, including winches, engines, cargo pumps, tank and pipeline valves, tank heaters, booms and cranes, and product meters. Maintain standards for barge cleanliness and organization. Perform routine inspections vessel to ensure compliance with USCG and State regulatory standards. Provide oversight and instruction during emergency situations, including use of emergency and safety equipment, damage mitigation, and respirators. Provide supervision, training, and evaluation of Tankerman new hires. Regularly document and communicate new hire progress to management. Recommend and administer specialized training strategies to successfully sign off new Tankermen. Perform periodic check-in’s with signed off new hires. Perform complicated or sensitive transfer operations, while maintaining safe barge operations. Maintain working knowledge of all State and Federal regulatory compliance regarding the transfer and carriage of petroleum products over water.

Maintained vessel readiness and performed deck operations including, handling lines, wires, and hoses, made and broke tow within the guidelines of safe tow operations. Used radio to effectively communicate with crew and other vessels. Provided accurate direction and distance signals. Worked as needed on cargo and oil barges. Maintained standards for vessel cleanliness and organization, internally and externally. Performed routine vessel maintenance including painting, lubrication, systems and engine upkeep. Assisted with loading of vessel supplies and goods. Aided during emergency situations. Crewed on as unlicensed engineer on Tug Grizzly for the duration of Summer 2017. Oversaw all aspects of vessel engineering including starting and stopping main engines, maintaining engine room logs, transfer of fuel, general repairs and mechanical maintenance.
