CurrentManage a Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation Services to enrolled American Indians with Disabilities who are seeking employment by overcoming their disabilities, and other barriers to employment. The American Vocational Rehabilitation Services (AIVRS) funding was established some years ago, and the Rehabilitation Services Administration of the Department of Education oversees the AIVRS funding to some 70 or more Tribe's throughout "Indian Country!" The Navajo Tribe was the first tribe to be funded, to provide Vocational Rehabilitation Services. When the Nez Perce Tribe received these funds, there were approximately 20 to 30 tribes that were funded. Now the funding has been approved for approximately 80 tribes. The AIVRS funds has been essential in providing tribes with the opportunity to assist many of their respective tribal members with disabilities to seek employment, once their disability barriers are removed so that they can enter into gainful employment. Through the Rehabilitation Services Administration, many of the Tribal VR staff members have been able to receive Rehabilitation training to improve the delivery of VR Services to their respective tribal members. The reauthorization of these Rehabilitation Action under WIA is now being considered, but there are some concerns, that the RSA will be moved over to the Department of Labor, and many of the rehabilitation are opposed to this move, due to going into an agency that doesn't know anything about serving people with disabilities.
