By using the “New” blooms taxonomy (get students to remember first, understand next, and then apply the newly learned content), I would give the students the choice of ways to assess their understanding by allowing them to analyze, evaluate or create something to prove mastery by using the student’s strengths not his/her weaknesses. With an Annual Professional Performance Review (or “APPR”) rating of 98 % in 2014/15 and a rating of 99% the previous year, data proves it works. Data driven instruction, is only a part of my job responsibilities. With the high concentration of students with emotional disabilities in a self-contained setting, parent contact, behavior management, as well as linkage to appropriate off site agencies and counseling are daily practices. Utilizing data from multiple local and New Your State platforms, I wrote Individual Education Plans (IEP). Those goals and objectives were implemented using lesson plans that were geared for 21st century skills using data collected and analyzed from various data dashboards. Also while I was there, I taught GED prep to incarcerated youth ages 16 to 21 that were mandated to attend in the mornings and taught ELA/GED reading and essay writing to adults ages 21 and above using research based practices in the afternoon.
