Appear TV has a very strong engineering focus that has grown significantly of late. We have now transitioned from being a box provider to having true end to end systems capability, with compression, T2 gateway, advanced distribution and all types of modulation from cable through to terrestrial and satellite developed in house. My role is to orchestrate components into solutions, leveraging Appear TV's unique architecture to deliver solutions that are demonstrably next generation by challenging and bettering what is available today. My role is heavily engineering as well as customer oriented. My current work has focussed on compression (including statistical multiplexing), new solutions for OTT (multiscreen) and end to end solutions for DVB-T2 providing a completely new and powerful integrated design throughout.

As compression solutions manager, I am directly responsible for achieving the compressionrevenue targets within the EMEA region for the IPTV and Cable segments. Both of these areof prime importance to Ericsson and despite managing them jointly because of theirperceived technical similarities, they are in reality very different, especially whenviewed from an Ericsson perspective.

Responsible for DSNG and DENG solutions globally.

I joined NDS as a project manager. This allowed me to put all of the technical andmanagerial skills that I acquired at the BBC to full use, working with the latest digitalbroadcast equipment on an international scale. As my experience developed, the size andimportance of the projects that I delivered increased and involved extensive overseastravel to numerous varied destinations including the USA; I have now worked with many of the worlds leading broadcasters and have built andretained excellent working relationships with the majority of them. Many still call mefirst when they need support and this is immensely gratifying.
