There is growing evidence that when people receive the right support from a funeral director, they are more likely to have a healthy grieving process. This is why we chose to become funeral directors.A "good funeral" is one where family and friends are giving the information, time and control that they need to make the choices that are most meaningful for them. Funerals should be created by empowered families and friends, not prescribed by funeral directors.Funeral services appear to have become categorised into "traditional" and "alternative", a distinction which is often unhelpful. If people understand the options available to them, they can choose to adhere to traditions which are meaningful to them and personalise other aspects of the funeral. So, we are not about any particular "type" of funeral and every funeral that we support people to create is different.As part of our work we try to encourage people to feel able to talk about death, dying and bereavement, so that we are better equipped to cope when death impacts on us personally. We deliver talks and workshops and are an active member of the Dying Matters Coalition, Leeds and Wharfedale Dying Matters Partnerships.
