I worked on a short-term contract for Devon County Council's Highways Department.

I worked at the Met Office as a Python developer on the AVD Team. During my time at the Met Office my achievements included;• Developing an example for the team's showcase gallery;• Improving the SciTools Iris library through bug fixes and code testing;• Writing new unit tests for modules that need them;• Helping the science users by answering queries via the support inbox. I like to go the extra mile; for instance, one user had a query that related to something my team didn't directly support. Whilst we had no facilities for the library she needed, I was able to direct her to a third-party site that could help, and also put her in touch with a contact who could advise in more detail;• I created and maintained my own GitHub repo, as part of the SciTools project;• I have also gained familiarity both with Python 2.7 and important Python libraries such as numpy and matplotlib.

I worked for Hertfordshire County Council as part of the ICT Contracts Team. During this time my achievements have included –• Software testing for a new version of our internal database system, for which I worked through a set of test scripts and supplied feedback to the developers;• Creating a new summary report for the monthly Key Performance Indicator data;• Analysing the KPIs for the Authority’s contractors;• Working to ensure that ICT projects are delivered on time and within budget;• Chairing the weekly project approvals meeting and reviewing new proposals;• Scrutinising project finances to identify and correct any errors, before these can develop into a delivery problem;• Writing proposal documents for new projects, working with colleagues to improve the business cases and then loading the completed documents onto the main database;• I have also developed new metrics to identify and characterise sets of delayed projects, using time series data and the project banding criteria.

Cambridge Research Park

Technical Writer, CRFS 09/2013-12/2013I worked at Cambridge Radio Frequency Systems. My achievements included –• Documenting new features of the node software;• Improving the copy for the company’s website;• Supporting the Sales & Marketing Team as required.

I oversaw the undergraduate students on their observing nights. This involved answering any queries they may have had, ensuring that health and safety policy was followed and closing down the equipment at the end of the night.

I worked for a variety of organisations on a contracted basis. Examples of my roles included customer service, data entry, mortgage complaints and local government. This period gave me experience of many different types of organisations and working environments. Examples of my achievements in this time include meeting all of my targets in my various roles, effective time management and providing good-quality service to customers and clients.
