I have been working in construction since the age of 16 and was a professional bricklayer for 10 years and have been working in the industry for 30 years. I have held many positions in the construction industry ranging from labour to management on domestic, commercial and industrial contracts. I have worked on national monuments such as ExCel, Wembley Stadium and the Emirates Stadium.I believe that all learners become confident that their progression in construction and education will enable them to develop themselves personally as well as gain control of their lives and futures and be able to proactively improve their individual circumstances.Throughout my teaching career I have been developing my own material and methods of good planning, teaching and learning. I have been part of OfStEd inspections numerous times and have been observed at a consistent grade 2. I have been mentioned in external verifier reports and my most previous OfStEd inspection for the quality of my assessment and feedback as well as having regular and consistent homework for the courses I deliver. I have mentored staff in academic planning, use of e-learning and good assessment practice. I have led my previous departments in evolving functional skills into integrated assignments which are part of the entry and progression process for the learners. I have actively developed and produced course material for both main programmes this previous year. I have worked alongside advanced teaching practitioners to develop easy and accessible systems for staff to effectively plan lessons incorporating GCSE/functional skills and employability in limited time spans.I have always endeavoured to lead by example as well as provide support for my team. I have worked closely with other college departments and subject areas to develop better cross co-ordination and standardisation. I have taken on difficult challenges such as key skills, functional skills and employability as well as equality and diversity and through co-operation and support, have helped develop effective systems to maintain good results and feedback. This has always only been possible through the support and communication within the teams I have worked.I'm about to start a new chapter in my career and I'm hoping that upon completing the level 4 Construction Certificate I can move into Building Surveying or project planning. My dream job would be in building design, especially autarchic or eco-efficient acomodation. (I've still never seen Changing Rooms though!)
