Campus Director of Data Centres (100MW)

Engaged in leading a number of complex projects through 2 Stage Pre Construction Service Agreements. Projects include a car assembly facility including associated infrastructure works, Oxford University student accommodation development and more recently a 225No key hotel and multi level basement within Cambridge.

Responsible for leading working winning and operation teams for a number of projects. Significant tenders included the Dubai Creek Development (Circa 5 Billion AED) and Dubai Expo 2020 (Circa 1.2 Billion AED). Operationally led mobilisation and commencement of construction on a mixed use medium rise development in Dubai with a built up area of 73,000m2 and the completion of a bank data centre in Abu Dhabi.

Responsible for delivery of a prestigious 5 Star luxury Hotel for the Jumeirah Group adjacent to the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. The project covers an area of over 100,000m2 and includes 430 key guest rooms, conference facilities, 3No swimming pools and numerous other facilities within substantial landscaped area.Also appointed to provide the Senior Management Team with advice /support on various live and legacy projects. Including Peer Reviews on projects and providing live project teams with technical and commercial support.

During this period I supported a number of projects in the U.A.E and lead a number of major tenders in Qatar.In Abu Dhabi I was assigned to support a project to ensure that works were complete for critical Municipality and Civil Defence Inspections.In Dubai I was assigned at short notice to temporarily lead a major hospital project due to the departure of a number of senior staff.Also during this period I lead a 2 No. major tenders in Qatar . One project was a major highway in which we formed a joint venture with a local contractor and the second was a large shopping mall development.

Project Director for the construction of a high rise development and related infrastructure in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.Leader of a management team of over 100 staff and a direct a labour force of over 2600 people,responsible for managing these resources to ensure the project is delivered within budget and in accordance with schedule requirements, whilst ensuring the highest safety and quality standards are maintained. Other responsibilities include –During the initial stages of the project I developed a logistic plan to deliver the project including tower crane configurations, hoist and access platforms, concrete distribution methods and temporary works including the slip forming and table form provisions.Detailed planning to produce contract programme and related target programmes considering procurement, design, construction and testing and commissioning requirementsThe mobilisation of staff/labour and plant based upon project requirements and budget constraints.Implementation of a procurement strategy to ensure major subcontract and equipment were procured to a defined schedule and with clearly defined scope and responsibilities.Preparing and presenting cost /programme reports to company directors to summarise cost and programme status and highlighting key risks to meeting budget and programme requirements. Provide clear leadership and direction to my project team so responsibilities are well defined and my expectations understood.Managing relations with key clients/customers to ensure concerns and issues are regularly discussed and also to gather information on possible future project opportunities

Bid Management - Khalifa port, Ruwais and Shah Oil and Gas (Bids)Primarily responsible for managing bid teams some of which where on projects in excess of £1billion. Key responsibility where putting together suitable bid teams and organising and delegating responsibilities in the preparation of bids, managing programme deliverables, direct point of contact with Client/Consultant including leading presentations and interviews.Also at various stages of the tender process demonstrating due diligence by proving a detailed overview of the project and the key risks associated and mitigation measures required.

Various projects in Dubai Ports World, JAFZA, Emirates National Oil Company & ALDARDuring this period I was responsible for over seeing a number of project valued from £5 to £30million. This included work winning, project set up and assistance on key issues to project teams. Also maintaining good working relationships with key Clients and claim settlement negotiations.

Construction of Naptha Hydro treater reformer (ENOC)All civil/structural works including 3No substations, major pre cast and insitu concrete and steel structures and foundations. Construction of ancillary buildings, earthworks grading and finished road and pedestrian paving works. Installation of over 12000m of underground carbon steel pipework, drainage systems and provision of firemain system. Many of the items of work described need to be constructed within the existing live refinery requiring extremely stringent controls on methods of work , valued at approx. £40million.

Design and Construction of Channel Tunnel Rail Link Depot Facilities (Temple Mills Stratford)11No packages of building and civil works valued at over £105million. Including bulk earthworks/demolition, track formation and drainage, reinforced concrete works, structural steel work and cladding also building /office internal fit out and road works.Significantly the main maintenance shed measured approx. 500m long by 60m wide. Requiring 24,000M3 of structural concrete, 3000t of structural steelwork and 50,000m2 of external cladding.

Modernisation of 108 London Underground stations on the Jubilee/Northern and Piccadilly Lines.Responsible for ensuring a consistent approach to the management of the delivery of stations by appointed project personnel was adopted by the utilising of standard tools for the effective management of appointed contractors.At a strategic level I lead the initiative to look at alternative approaches to delivering modernisations works in “out of working hours periods” only i.e. station shutdowns and limited work area possessions.

Responsible for the management of a design and build contract of £60million new elevated viaduct and associated building works.Prime responsibility to ensure the design was delivered on time to within the agreed budget forecast (Cost reimbursable). Also accountable for ensuring a staged approval process was followed by the Contractor/designer in accordance with RIBA criteria, in order to gain required funding at key stages.

Major items of work included 7.5 million b.c.m. of bulk earthworks, including rough grading golf course, geotechnical works and land reclamation works. Other major works included road, drainage construction and major river inlet/outlet structures over a 120 hectare area. Also construction of Cisadane river intake, pump house and water tanks supporting irrigation systems (Contract value US$32.4 million).

Major items of work included 7.5 million b.c.m. of bulk earthworks, including rough grading golf course, geotechnical works and land reclamation works. Other major works included road, drainage construction and major river inlet/outlet structures over a 120 hectare area. Also construction of Cisadane river intake, pump house and water tanks supporting irrigation systems (Contract value US$32.4 million).

Employed as the Senior Constructor Manager for the construction of a 40 million pound development in London. Involving major demolition, piling works, forming a 14 storey steel frame and slip formed concrete lift cores including major structural alterations. Including over 12,000m2 of architectural cladding and the Fit out (Cat B) of the completed shell and core.

Employed as the Project Manager for the construction of a reinforced concrete deck over the throat of Liverpool St. Station, over the existing railway. Involving the construction of hand dug and machine dug under reamed piles, insitu concrete works and the erection 4500t of structural steelwork.In order to keep the Station operational as a major train station it was essential that detailed and long term planning of required possessions and isolations occurred. Facilitating this and ensuring that methods of work to maximise available possessions and isolations was one of my prime responsibilities.

Design and Build of 72 MW power plant in Iloilo, Panay (US$11.5 Million). Installation of the electrical balance of plant for 1200MW power plant in Sual, Luzon (US$2.4 Million). Construction of onshore/offshore cement loading facilities in Naga, Cebu (US$6.4 Million). Also preparation of tender submission for major sewage and water treatment plant in Fort Bonifacio.

Major work included 9.2 million b.c.m of bulk earthworks, 15 km of road works requiring significant ground improvement measures, temporary and permanent river diversion works, 50 m high elevated water tank with piled foundation and constructed of reinforced concrete, road side drainage requiring approximately 16,000 m3 of reinforced concrete, installation of water distribution pipe line. Also the construction of various reinforced concrete structures for a sewage and water treatment plant. The described works were carried out in a joint operation with Takenaka and Chiyoda of Japan. (Total contract value US$33 million)During this period I implemented BS EN ISO 9001 management systems, for which we achieved accreditation by March 1997.

Involved with the construction of a post tensioned bridge deck, a subway requiring major traffic management scheme, land reclamation works, piling operations and construction of a US$10 million aqueduct involving substantial temporary works to support a 3,500T concrete bridge deck.
