Worked within the Region to develop and expand employer engagement in the skills agenda and to improve the quality of logistics skills development provision. My role was key to maintaining effective communications to inform and support the understanding of the logistics sector in governmental and other organisations.I consider my greatest achievement in the region to have been the successful formation of the Logistics Academy Yorkshire and Humber with a strong employer led Board supported by a wide provider network, working together cooperatively and constructively for the benefit of the sector.I was instrumental in successfully obtaining funding for the Academy from the Regional Development Agency and two Lifelong Learning Networks. This funding enabled dedicated staff to be employed, creating a strong local academy, A member of the Hull and Humber Ports City Region’s Board for Employment, Enterprise and Skills working with local Education and Business partnerships and Lifelong Learning networks on career development projects.Nationally I have represented Skills for Logistics (SfL) at the Driving Standards Agency’s DCPC Stakeholder Group, the National Employer Training Pilot (Train to Gain) and Jobcentre Plus. Responsibility for the Utility Supply Chain and developing an effective working relationship with the FTA’s Essential Services Working Group.

Project Manager responsible to the Chief Executive for a team of 6 Regional Managers delivering, through a network of Approved Training Providers:• Modern Apprenticeship Demonstration Project• Logistics Skills Award (Driving Goods Vehicle) • Young Drivers Scheme• Selling the benefits of structured training within work based learning to a wide range of logistics employers• Accrediting, supporting and monitoring a network of Approved Training Providers throughout the UK.• Liaising with external bodies and organisations associated with skills development including the Learning and Skills Council, Job Centre +, University for Industry (Learn Direct’s Logistics Hub), Centres of Vocational Excellence, NTP Equality Project, Business Links, Trade Associations and Trade Unions.• Reporting to the Department for Transport and Scottish Executive on the progress of schemes sponsored by their respective Road Haulage Modernisation Funds.• Representing Skills for Logistics on the Skills for Business network Cross Sector Boards concerning Management and Leadership, IT User Skills and Employability issues.

• The delivery of a wide range of benefits and services to member companies within the Region providing advice, guidance and assistance on all aspects of their transport operation.• Recruitment and retention of member companies to the Association.• Representing member company interests by liaising with a wide range of Government bodies, external organizations and the media at national, regional and local levels.• Secretary to the Association’s Southern and Eastern Regional Council, working parties and consultation groups.• Secretary to the RHA Careers and Training Standing Committee.• RHA representative as Board Member of the Road Haulage Distribution and Training Council.• Member of the Road Haulage Forum’s Training Committee, sitting on the ‘Respect for People’ and ‘Transferable Training Loans’ working groups.• CBI / Home Office Working Party and National Offenders Management Service on employing ex offenders.• Driver Standards Agency National Focus Group member.• Specialist in Goods Vehicle Operating Licensing. Liaison with Traffic Commissioners and Traffic Area Staff.• Member of liaison committees at major UK ports and factories concerning operational, safety and security matters.• Secretary to Joint Industrial Council negotiating with Trade Unions representatives over pay and conditions for employees on behalf of the employers side.• Secretary to the RHA Security Committee liaising with Police Forces and other agencies.
