In 2020 I was offered the position of Site Manager, after the previous manager moved onto new projects. Then came COVID which saw the festival and the whole of the live events industry come to a grinding halt. 2021 came and went, and now 2022 is here and everything seems on course to finally celebrate the festivals 50th year, after 2020 was cancelled. The role is varied and usually begins in the September/ October time. The pre-start works consist of site planning, comprehensive reviews of infrastructure needs and requirements, design layout changes, updates and review of site specific documentation including risk assessment, methodology and administrative record keeping. During the site build I am responsible for around 10 or so direct site crew, including office managers, crew bosses and general site operatives, as well as a wide range of festival crew, sub contractors and suppliers who’s work brings them into my area. During this time on site, I oversee the setting out of the entire infrastructure of the two stages, including their arenas as well as the areas that are interstage and hospitality. I liaise with external suppliers and ensure that the project is delivered to plan and on time. I’m part of a fantastic team that includes the Head of Production for the two stages, Area Organisers, CAD designers, as well as the wider festival teams, The BBC, internal press teams and individual suppliers etc.

In 2019 I was approached by the then Site Manager for Pyramid and Other Stage at the festival, having worked with him for the past 20 years on various other projects I gladly accepted. It was an honour to be invited to work at such a prestigious event, and a brilliant opportunity to venture into the world of live events

My roles as Plant Manager, as well as now dealing with Insurances, including Fleet Policies, Plant Cover and PL & EL. With an annual insurance turnover of approx. £45k per year, it was a huge overhead, and required concise time management speaking to and negotiating with a minimum of three insurance brokers specialising in their fieldDuring this time we as a company gained our ISO 9001 & 14001 quality accreditation, I aided in compiling and documenting all company procedures as well as improving on existing systems already in placeAs a general and non defined role I was also responsible for the costing of contract works, including the pricing and allocating of material and equipment to our Civil Sites. I compiled data from gang recourse sheets and provided profit/loss information on individual jobsAs well as the plant and vehicles, I was now responsible for the maintenance and safe working of our depots including ensuring site security and welfare, organising in house training days and dealing with renting out unused areas of the depot to maximise profit and efficiencyI carried out in-house training days, covering H&S and industry regulations, and job specific training T.J. Hunt is the parent company of A Hester Ltd, a Guildford based environmental services contractor, and as well as fulfilling the role for T.J. Hunt, my responsibilities were mirrored with A Hester, dealing with the operational running for two companies simultaneouslyIn May 2010 our Company Accountant retired after almost 14 years with the company. Whilst looking for a suitable candidate I was asked to assist and carry out many of the administrative and basic bookkeeping requirements to prevent any cash flow issues and to ensure all our suppliers were paid on time. One of the biggest concerns as a company was ensuring that our suppliers and Sub-contractors were paid on time and correctly, without these people we simply would not exist. I assisted in this role for over 6 months

• Having worked for 7 years as an operator a position became vacant for a Plant Manager• I managed a fleet of excavators, rollers, dumpers, compressors & agricultural machinery.• During this time as the Plant Manager we were unfortunate in loosing a substantial Term Maintenance contract for the local authority, which left us with a surplice of plant and commercial vehicles. I began a self drive division utilising the surplice equipment and creating revenue of income at what was at the time, a difficult period. This division grew to provide a fully comprehensive municipal vehicle hire to local authorities and government departments. Over the past 12 years the company has forged excellent working relationships with County, Borough and District councils from Nottingham to Devon. • As Plant Manager is was my responsibility to purchase new plant and commercial vehicles when needed and to ensure the vehicles we had were working effectively and efficiently, including enrolling all drivers on a SAFED (Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving) course.• It was my responsibility to ensure plant was allocated to the correct site and any sub-contracted plant hired in was at a competitive rate and in the right place at the right time. • I built up a comprehensive working relationship with a nationwide network of suppliers ensuring that our clients had their needs met wherever their site was located. • During my time as Plant Manager I oversaw the running of approximately 20 staff
