My support for the concept of an academic turn for global ophthalmology as a curriculum entity that includes the role of public health in ophthalmology is represented by the on-going interest in this field at The Wills Eye Hospital under the aegis of Dr. Brad Feldman. It is time that the most current knowledge is offered to the work of the INGOs, the medical-industrial complex, and becomes a new entity to be included in programs of the AAO and be recognized in ABO examination, etc. Dr.Feldman and his chair, Dr. Julia Haller surely would welcome funding toward a new kind of annual fellowship appointment (more educational than service-oriented) to produce graduates of the annual fellowship who will become its teachers in other programs. This is such a quick summary that it could be misleading. I suggest interested persons contact Dr. Feldman at Wills for a more accurate update.
