About David Pledger
Dr David Pledger is a conceptual, media and performance artist, and a curator, writer and futurist whose work seeks to highlight the productive relationship of art, technology and science to society and culture. His ideas-led practice builds artworks and public events of scale. In 1995, he co-founded not yet it’s difficult (NYID), one of Australia’s leading anti-disciplinary arts outfits with whom he developed a singular dramaturgy that is internationally recognised. He has received widespread recognition for his work in theatre, opera and new media, and exhibited and presented widely across Australia, Asia and Europe. His work is notable for engaging publics in productive & provocative ways in live performance, interactive & public artworks, digital art & discursive events.A recipient of numerous inter/national art grants & awards including Sydney Myer Performing Arts Award, his work is distinguished by collaborations with media artist Jeffrey Shaw, choreographer Shimizu Shinjin, visual artists William Kelly, Callum Morton, Su-san Cohn, dramaturg Peter Eckersall & impact producer, Alex Kelly. In the first wave of Australian artists to engage in Asia, he has created 20+ artistic projects in Japan, Korea, China, Malaysia, Singapore. Curatorial practice focuses on developing optimal conditions for artistic creation in exhibition & programming contexts.
