Making my way back in to nursing. Working with some amazing children and their families in this specialist step down service.

The start of me returning to nursing but the long way round. Once I have gained experience in ICU, hopefully next step is to return to a registered nurse position. UPDATE - well that did not work out, but had valuable experience and will look for another way forward

I am responsible for ensuring all clinical staff are using skills that follow best practice using evidenced research to ensure the best care is provide to the children and families we serve.

Working with children and families who are affected by their child's palliative care needs. I work with a variety of children who may require end of life care, those receiving treatment for life limiting conditions and children who have physical and learning disabilities.I work with families and siblings of the child to assist in providing a holistic approach to care for the child. I also carry out assessments to establish the individual eligibility of every child who wishes to access the service. I provide care in the community to children who may be too poorly to access the services at the hospice and provide emergency care for families in crisis.

I worked within a 6 bed assessment and treatment ward for adults with learning disability. I would take on people who are experiencing a mental health crisis and this would include those who have been sectioned under the mental health act. Patients would be entitled to stay on a variety of care pathways for treatment then return to the community. There was also facility for a "step down" service from those who have been through the judicial system before returning to the community. The ward would work alongside a range of other professionals to establish the best possible care and open links back in to the community.
