I am a creative, innovative, dedicated and motivated engineer with 18 years of experience in working with the design of electronic devices from the initial prototype phase to mass production phase. Over the years I’ve used many tools of the trade including Cadence Allegro, Cadence Orcad, Siemens Xpedition Enterprise, Ansys SiWave, Ansys Q3D, Matlab, digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers and many more. Along the way, in addition to already knowing how to program in C++, I’ve picked up intermediate programming skills in Python and Java. Throughout my career, I’ve been involved in all stages of the design process: concept, preliminary engineering, schematic, layout, verification, package creation, testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and assembly for products that will eventually be used in high volume mass production.In my spare time, I like to play guitar (badly), fly my wife and three children around in our Cessna 310 and flight instruct. Responsible for creating reference designs for many of Qualcomm’s recent main and parallel mobile switched inductor buck battery charging PMICs, Mobile companion switched capacitor buck converter PMICs and automotive core switched inductor buck PMICs. I worked closely with the IC designers to help them create the pinout of each PMIC that I worked on for the most efficient layout of both the PCB and the IC. This was done by feeding back simulations of parasitic resistance/inductance and capacitive coupling between aggressors and victim signals from prospective layouts. I also used my mechanical abilities and spatial awareness to place and escape components to minimize area required without compromising PMIC efficiency or increasing PCB cost. These reference designs were used on test hardware and reference phones or automotive reference designs throughout Qualcomm. These designs should ultimately be what ended up on the consumer phone or in the car. Responsible for the creation of evaluation boards of all of Qualcomm’s recent mobile high tier main and parallel PMICs. By referring to engineering documentation, interfacing with PMIC module leads and customer engineers, I created an efficient schematic and layout that was representative of both the best performance of the PMIC and what the customer would actually use in practice on a consumer phone. Functional bring up of PMIC evaluation boards or other hardware that I created. Work with common lab equipment, such as, DMMs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies and spectrum analyzers to determine proper operations. Extensive, debugging skills were needed when problems or unexpected results occurred. Created a digital interface board that used a Xilinx ARTIX7 FPGA and a PIC micro controller to communicate through a PC base GUI and convert SPI communication signals into Qualcomm SPMI communication signals. This board was used in conjunction with the evaluation boards to communicate with the PMICs.

Lead designer on printed circuit boards with cutting edge technology including blind, buried, and micro vias, fine pitch BGA, high speed signals, RF design, and even ceramic package design with trace width’s all the way down to 75 micron (2.95 mil). Managed multiple printed circuit boards at once from different clients. Strong multitasking skills ensured all designs (up to 7 at once) were completed on time and within budgeted hours. A basic programming knowledge of Java was attained in spare time to make a multi tabbed multi functioned GUI program to assist in speeding up some of the design requirements.
