I started my journey with programming when I was 20 while attending the University of Alabama. I signed up for a python class using an ubuntu Linux distribution. I failed miserably. It was the hardest class I had ever attempted and I just couldn't grasp the concepts. I dropped the class shortly after we started loops. Fast forward six years and I still found myself thinking about that python class. I had dropped it out of fear that I just wasn't capable of understanding it, but that never sat well with me. Having grown up with computers and playing games, I felt a strong affinity towards them and wanted to understand more about them. I then discovered a C# course on Udemy about learning how to code by creating games taught by Ben Tristrem and decided it was worth the $10 to give myself another chance. It was hard. Probably the hardest thing I had ever done, but I was captivated. I loved the struggle of learning how to do something new, something I had previously thought I wasn't capable of. I loved learning how to solve problems in creative ways. A few more years pass without much changing - I kept on working jobs I didn't truly enjoy, and would frequently find myself thinking about how nice it would be to have a job where I could really exercise my brain. A job like programming. I then decided I wanted to try going to college again, but this time for something I was really interested in - programming. So I did. My time at Pensacola Junior College was short but educational. While there, I took my pseudo-revenge on the python class that had once bested me, and dipped my toes into the world of cyber security. Unfortunately, due to a changing financial situation, I had to stop attending and pursue a more gainful employment than what I had while attending classes - but the fire was lit. I was determined to become a programmer. I wouldn't be happy settling for anything else. Another year and a half pass, and I finally found my opportunity - Innovate Birmingham, a free boot camp for local residents. After what felt like forever, I was given the green light for attending. I convinced my partner to allow me to quit my job, gave the program my all, and managed to become a programmer. That was two years ago, and I haven't dreaded going into work a single day since. I firmly believe software engineering is what I will be doing for the remainder of my life.Is this a good about section? Probably not. But this is me. I believe reading this will give you more insight into who I am and the kind of work I will do than anything else I can put here.
