Employed as a contracting Software Engineer on a rolling contract.During my time at the BBC I worked on two separate projects – iPlayer and the revamp of the BBC homepage. iPlayer project: tasked with querying and monitoring an XML feed via a restful API to maintain an up to date set of listings across all BBC regions linked to the relevant media assets. Homepage revamp: working with a team of excellent front end developers to launch a configurable widget based homepage.Developed the Feed Engine, a Catalyst application configured via a web interface to allow the fetching of content from any source within the BBC via a number of embedded protocols. The retrieved content was transformed into an internal format and subjected to a range of business logic plugins. The data was reformatted and dispatched to the required destination. Initially designed to handle the content for the homepage alone the engine has now found wider use as an internal content packaging and retrieval system.During my time at the BBC we worked within an Agile environment with a strong focus on test driven development including the use of Ruby and the Watir library.Highlights included:• Working for a global brand on high profile products• Launch of the BBC home page• Delivery of the world service news widget and the challenge of multiple sources and formats each with different encoding• Creating a widget to deliver live scores (Wimbledon) on the BBC homepage for the first time• Exposure to Agile, Catalyst, TDD, User Acceptance testing and Fitnesse

Founded in 1995 NSL Internet was targeted at serving the bespoke consultancy needs of marketing and web design companies and aiming to be highly adaptable and always at the cutting edge of Internet Technology.As a hosting and consultancy company our aim was to provide high end technical tools that could be used by those with limited technical ability.
