My previous role was to manage all the support aspects for various contracts such as plant, fleet, stores, facilities, subcontractor assessment and introduction, sales, as well as IT. Due to the imminent legislative change in the Traffic Management Act and the necessity to upgrade the legacy IT systems, whilst providing full support to the current working applications, my responsibilities were focused to managing the business’ information. One of the successes in this role was the creation and implementation a bespoke Business Dashboard. The Dashboard, which was web-based and read only, extracted data from numerous sources throughout the business and presented it in a high level format, whilst giving the option of ‘drilling down’ to the detail if required. The main benefit of the Business Dashboard was the removal of the lengthy time to produce KPI’s, Metrics and Reports for management reviews - which were out of date the minute they were produced. As the longer-term location of this role was going to be Warwick based, I decided to accept voluntary redundancy in November 2007. This ended a wonderful 18 ½ years with Marconi/Telent.

As this was a staff position, this enabled me to progress my career to Supervisor/Depot Manager and eventually Regional Operations Manager. Having been identified from over 45,000 employees as one of the business’ top 100 Managers, I was fast tracked through the business and was asked to manage large prestigious and lucrative contracts. I have successfully managed teams of 1 to 500 staff working in both the UK and on overseas contracts. I have managed contracts with an annual turnover of £200k to £200m. Some of my customers included BT, Telewest, Virgin, Tiscali, Northern Ireland Police, Royal Air Force and many of the other licensed telecommunications operators. During my career, I have managed all facets of the external network and also the equipment (transmission/switching) side of the business. My place of work has involved me working in London, Basildon, Chorley, Liverpool, Coventry and East Anglia.
