David is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He was educated in Scotland and at the University of Manchester, where he was sponsored for his first degree in engineering by UKAEA. He joined UKAEA after graduating, but left to join GEC to train with its steam turbine company in Manchester. Following this, he had a career with GEC Alsthom, that was concentrated on power stations, both in the UK and overseas. His experience covered coal-fired, combined cycle gas turbine, hydro-electric and nuclear stations. He held several senior positions including being Engineering Manager for the steam turbine island of the 2x980MW(e) Ling Ao PWR project for CGNPC in southern China.David later joined the Weir Group as Engineering Director of its Strachan & Henshaw subsidiary before taking up roles in projects and business management which continued following Babcock’s acquisition of that company. He has experience of dealing with many parts of the UK’s nuclear industry, including UKAEA, AWE, EDF, Magnox, BNFL and the naval dockyards on the Clyde and at Devonport.David was the Technical Director for Dounreay Site Restoration Limited for a two year period. He gained experience of working directly with the NDA and the indutry's regulators, ONR and SEPA.
