The Balik Scientist Program is a national (Philippine) initiative that aims to combat brain drain--attracting foreign-trained Filipinos to return and stimulate target research fields. I was involved in a 3-month engagement wherein I conducted seminars and workshops and set-up capabilities for QD research.

I designed bright IR emitting nanomaterials with reduced reabsorption which is beneficial for luminescent solar concentrators. These have the potential for low-cost and ubiquitous energy source through BIPV.

My doctorate was in CuInS2 colloidal QD solar cells. I designed a synthetic scheme that allowed for solution-processable CuInS2 QDs. I fabricated and measured optoelectronic devices and pinpointed performance bottlenecks and overcome these through device and materials design. I was also involved in the development of new non-toxic absorbers and surface passivation and doping of lead sulfide-based technologies.

I was part of a research team that aimed to make printed dye-sensitized solar cells. I was tasked with stabilizing TiO2 nanoparticles for inkjet applications.

This was a 2-month summer research internship by Nano-Initiative Munich (NIM). I modified pore sizes in TiO2 nanocrystal networks for DSSCs.
