◦ Full-stack data science: Responsible for projects from inception to delivery. Extracted relevant data from data warehouses, performed exploratory analysis and data cleaning, made modeling decisions both independently and with guidance, documented processes, and presented results to other data scientists and to business partners.◦ Domain knowledge acquisition: Quickly learned fundamentals of pricing models and insurance from mentors and from written sources, leading to first major successful model delivery in January 2021.◦ Data ownership: Developed queries to extract datasets for projects. Supported development of data pipelines based on these queries. Fixed issues found in the queries and acted as a resource for users of the data.◦ Technologies: Primarily wrote Python in Jupyter notebooks on a cloud computing platform, making heavy use of Pandas and H2O. ◦ Search Algorithms: Research project under principal advisor Mason Porter funded by the University of California Institute for Transportation Studies (ITS). The project sought to develop an algorithm to generate school bus routes for the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).◦ Collaboration: Collaborated with LAUSD, who provided the data and for whom the final routing program was produced. As the lead presenter for most of the meetings with LAUSD, I gained experience in understanding the needs of clients and communicating information to audiences with mixed technical knowledge.◦ Python: Wrote the routing program in Python, using NumPy and SciPy for relevant computations and Matplotlib for data visualization. The program can be viewed on my GitHub page.◦ Technical Reading and Technical Writing: Read existing bus routing literature to understand how our application fit into the field as a whole. Learned about known algorithms, chose which ones might be most successful in our application, and implemented them with suitable modifications. Compared them with algorithms of our own design. Discussed the results in a technical report, to be published on the ITS website.◦ Data Analytics/Data Science: Synthesized data from many different LAUSD sources, determined how each candidate algorithm needed to be constructed or modified to suit the data, and designed metrics to compare the performance of different algorithms with each other.
