David is an independent artist specializing in printmaking, book design and illustration. He has designed and illustrated hundreds of books and written several as well. He is the author/illustrator of several children’s picture books including Nate’s Treasure, Winter Wood, Starry Night, and Home Field, (Lothrop, Lee & Shepard, NY.) His children's books have been recognized with a Moonbeam Award and by being a Golden Kite finalist. David has been a Blacklock Artist Fellowship winner and has been a judge and frequent panelist for the Minnesota Book Awards for children's books.His book designs have won many awards including the Benjamin Franklin Award, Bay Area Independent Publishers Award, Creativity 32, and Mom's Choice award. David also maintains a home printmaking studio, complete with a Sturges CP-4 etching press. His etchings have been shown nationally in the annual Small Print Exhibit and many local venues. He exhibits regularly with Project Art for Nature, a group of artists and illustrators from Minnesota and Wisconsin working independently and collaboratively to create artwork which promotes stewardship of threatened natural areas in our region.David was recently awarded a McKnight Artist Fellowship by the East Central Regional Arts Council for his series "The Dragonfly Suite" a series of images depicting the many species of dragonflies that inhabit the north woods.
