Interviewed the entrancing and steely Suu Kyi in Rangoon the day before she began years of house arrest, and (after filing) was taken under armed escort to the airport and quite politely expelled.

Privileged to know dissident writer and future president Vaclav Havel, meeting, when he wasn't in prison, in his top floor flat overlooking the Vltava River as he patiently explained why you must always maintain faith in human nature. Detained at Bucharest airport in May, 1987 and ejected on first flight the next day when trying to cover a fateful visit by Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
