I have a passion for development, but a mind for product details, workflows, and business logic, and my intuition for systems and behaviors probably would have made me a decent detective (or car mechanic) in another life.After a misspent youth in business software and tech startups, I've finally started to settle down into a more respectable career in online education: While I started in Java, I've moved on to Python and web app development, maintaining a strong interest in database technology, and have started dabbling in natural language processing and machine learning in the pursuit of better (and more automated) content management systems. (Sometimes I wish I was making video games, but have settled for building smart, helpful products that make even Enterprise software less painful to work with.)While I've had less time for it lately, I try to remain active in the Open Source community, both in terms of leveraging it in the projects I work on, and finding ways to encourage my companies to "give back", be it in code, pizza, or event hosting. I'm particularly fond of the Twisted networking engine project, the Boston Python meetup, and MIT's interactive fiction scene.More recently I have been helping to host the Boston Software Crafters meetup, where I try to combine all the above interests into new and unusual coding challenges and software katas - They have been described as "not always fun", but sometimes "very original" and "fascinating", and often "very amusing, if nothing else".
