As President and Founder of Middleburg Capital Development, Mr. Sutherland is responsible for leading the due diligence process on potential investments, including meeting and assessing management teams and revenue models for potential targeted investments, assessing the financial viability of entities, as well as evaluating the company’s valuation and exit strategies. Mr. Sutherland concentrates on start-up companies to lower middle market staged companies. In addition, he works closely with portfolio companies in the development of business models, with a focus on affirming market viability, scalability, sustainability and exit pathways. Mr. Sutherland serves as a Board member for many of the companies where MCD has made capital investments.​Prior to the launching of MCD, Mr. Sutherland served as Deputy Director of Operations at Pace Global Energy Services, a global energy management and consulting company. Pace was internationally recognized as a provider of advisory services, project evaluation, strategic planning, market assessments and risk management services. Pace Global developed and successfully deployed a unique approach to energy and carbon management for over 10,000 industrial and large commercial facilities located throughout North America and Europe and provided asset and risk management services to a large portfolio of major energy consumers and utility companies.​In addition to his role with MCD, Mr. Sutherland serves on the Board of Advisors for the Gigot Center of Entrepreneurial Studies and the Graduate Alumni Board of the Mendoza College of Business, both at the University of Notre Dame. He also spent five years on the Board of Directors for the IrishAngels, a Notre Dame inspired angel group dedicated to furthering start up growth through early stage investment. David is a Trustee for the Sutherland Family Trust.​David received both his BBA and MBA from the University of Notre Dame and lives in Arlington, Virginia with his wife Caitlin and two children, Lily and Connor.
