CurrentServe on senior management team and manage legal unit with 15 staff comprised of attorneys and advocates to provide legal and management training and technical assistance, and to conduct legal and policy research in support of disability rights attorneys and advocates. Issues addressed includes all aspects of the civil rights of persons with disabilities such as community integration, voting rights, prison conditions, public accessibility, education, and protections from abuse and neglect. Address staff performance and workload issues. Review and edit numerous technical assistance and legal documents. Wrote and edited successful grant application efforts to secure funding from both public and private partners. Assist with budget issues as needed.Serve as general counsel reviewing and writing contracts, and advising on insurance, personnel and employment, and compliance issues for the organization. Oversee implementation of large federal grants and contracts to ensure programmatic compliance. Successfully completed publications for the National Council on Disability, and conduct legal, statistical and policy research on the rights of persons with disabilities. Co-led a coalition which successfully organized a 2021 National Guardianship Summit to recommend reform and served as chair of the coalition.Train and provide direct technical assistance to national network of attorneys on federal employment laws; efforts to combat human trafficking of persons with disabilities; guardianship laws and supported decision-making; federal laws on lobby restrictions for nonprofit organizations; the federal protection and advocacy system for persons with disabilities; and other related laws and programs. Coordinate legal ethics panel.
