Technical Director – Digital Engineering is a highly regarded member of the Downer Engineering Services team, you will work alongside the Engineering Manager – CAD/Digital as Downer Utilities’ go-to expert in the digital engineering field, with a passion for new technologies and providing advice and solutions to engineering and design teams.

As a Lead Drafter of the Engineering team at Downer Utilities I am responsible for the utilisation of the design drafting team via effective management and co-ordination of staff within my region. This includes but is not limited to utilisation planning and reporting, identifying skills gaps and training requirements, annual staff performance reviews and maintaining a positive team culture.I am responsible for promoting and developing the technical capability of the team in my region, which includes preparation and maintenance of drafting specific capability statements, the promotion of Downer Utilities via attendance at selected events and forums, keeping abreast new developments and dissemination of information to the design drafting team.As a Lead Drafter I am responsible for developing, implementing and administering regional drafting standards and procedures across the water and power divisions. I also work with the National CAD Lead to assist with the development and implementation of standards and procedures across the water and power divisions at a national level. I also work with the National CAD Lead to champion Downer Utilities BIM development, working closely with key stakeholders to roadmap and implement Downer's BIM vision.

The Autodesk Vault Manager is required to maintain the Vault system to ensure compliance and quality of stored resources with company standards and policy. Review and update records and data as required. Working with Drawing office manager and IT Manager review and update company Vault standards and policies as required.David took-on the project to implement the Autodesk Vault Document management system across the refinery. This required the processing of over 90,000 drawing and reference files and associated meta data and uploading to the system, while ensuring accuracy and quality of the uploaded data.This project also required the development of Systems documentation, User Manuals and procedures. Then organising and delivering training on these new systems and procedures for both drawing office personnel as a wider refinery audience.The conclusion of this project was the creation of the Vault Manager role for ongoing maintenance.

The AutoCAD Manager is required to maintain the drawing office drafting applications and systems to minimise user disruption and maximum available efficiency, as well as monitor quality and compliance with drawing office standards and policies. Review and update records and data as required. Working with Drawing office manager and IT Manager review and drawing office standards and policies as required. AutoCAD Manager is required to balance the needs of the drawing office team and the IT systems requirements.Work with the drawing office team to identify areas for potential customisation or automation and developing an improved process (primarily with LISP and Scripts), associated documentation and deliver user update training.

Lead a team of draftsman to work in collaboration with process and certifying engineers on Refinery design projects from concept, construction and as built. Projects vary from major process plant designs, including all design disciplines to minor maintenance replacements and even reverse engineering machinery parts and producing fabrication drawings. Deliverables for projects typically include Concept models and costing, P&ID drawings, 3D models, Piping Isometrics, Piping Plans and arrangements, Bills of Materials, structural arrangement and details, civil plans, concrete details.Coach and guide the drawing team on standards, policies, good drawing procedures and design best proactive while ensuring drawing and systems quality and delivery on schedule and budget. Oversee the maintenance and management of drawing office records and logs. Collaborate with the AutoCAD and Vault and drawing office managers on standards and automation improvements.

The Commanding Officer (CO) is the most senior appointment in an Australian Navy Cadet Training Ship. The rank associated with the position is Lieutenant Australian Navy Cadets (ANC). The CO has overall command of the personnel enrolled or appointed to the Training ship and is responsible for all activities and the correct operations of all activities related to the training ship. A training ship has a small compliment of instructors as staff (e.g. Executive and Training Officers) and a compliment of cadets, who are teenagers of various ages (13 to 17 years). The Aim of the training ship (and the ANC) is to provide an environment and opportunities for cadets to develop and to become capable, confident and resilient members of their communities. This is done through delivering safe, challenging and meaningful experiences and maximises the use of Royal Australian Navy watercraft and Navy ships.David progressed from the Rank of Petty Officer Instructor to Commanding Officer over the course of his career with the ANC. David started as a Cadets Draftsman, showing great maturity, a keen insight and a drive to learn from experienced designers, he progressed quickly while working full time and studying part time.Making the most of every opportunity to visit sites and work with fabricators he gained a strong appreciation of the fabrication methods and drawing requirements to best achieve the design intent and quickly gained the respect of the workshop team.Changing status from Cadet draftsman to design draftsman was a natural progress supported by the whole team. Project work required great attention to detail and a wide variety of skills. As drawings required where for every aspect of the building and site installation of skid (package) steam generation plants. This included the Tender and concept drawings, arrangements, piping construction isometrics and P&IDs, structural, electrical and some concrete and civil layouts.
