David Trace, M.D., F.A.C.P., recently retired as a Physician Executive with McKesson. Prior to coming to McKesson he was Strategic Director of The Kennedy Group (TKG), a Chicago-based healthcare information technology advisory firm. In 1992, he was CEO and co-founder of Intelligent Medical Systems (IMS), a medical software company producing physician-centered point of care applications. IMS was sold to Glaxo Wellcome in 1995 and subsequently became Healthpoint/Healthmatics, for which he was the chief medical officer. Healthpoint/Healthmatics, a computerized patient record company owned by Glaxo Wellcome, was later purchased by A4 Health Systems in 1999 and more recently purchased by Allscripts. He also co-founded Intelligent Medical Objects (IMO) in 1995 and is currently on the Board of Directors of IMO. Dr. Trace was the Dean of Clinical Affairs and Chairman of Medicine at the Chicago Medical School (CMS) from 1990-96. Prior to CMS, he was the chief of medical services at the North Chicago Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr. Trace is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and served in Vietnam as a Navy pilot. In 1976 he graduated from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and did this residency and chief residency at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and has published over fifty peer-reviewed articles in medical informatics.
