Technical Authority for Naval Architecture covering naval architecture and accommodation designers, covering Oslo and Singapore. Department includes all lead engineers, senior engineers, design engineers, weight control engineers and draughtsmen covering naval architecture and accommodation for the conversion of existing tankers to FPSO’s and support of existing FPSO's. Responsibilities include selection of candidate vessels for bids, completion of naval architectural and structural input to the FEED for bids, producing technical solutions for naval architectural and structural problems and liaise with relevant classification societies, ensuring all projects use standard BWO technical solutions and develop new solutions as necessary, buying naval architectural and structural analysis software, technical review of personnel and act as line manager for all personnel in the department

Part of project management/design team for four 45m Ice Breaking Emergency Evacuation Vessels to operate in the North Caspian Sea. Liaison with class (DnV), flag state and shipbuilders. Review of tenders, award of contract and site supervision in Poland. Each vessel required to evacuate 340 personnel in a hydrocarbon/toxic environment, with possible oil pool fires, whilst breaking ice up to 60 cm. Vessels constructed by Remontowa Group’s Northern Shipyard Gdansk Poland. Construction commenced September 05

Project Manager/Naval Architect, overseeing projects based in Houlder’s Aberdeen office, servicing the Aberdeen Offshore market. Projects include client technical representation, site visits, ship loadouts, surveys and structural design and analysis. Main area of responsibility covered Houlder’s client Technip Offshore UK. Assisted the ships superintendents and ships staff with regard to technical input covering ship maintenance, preparing dry docking plans and general running of Technip’s managed fleet of 10 pipe laying and diving support vessels based worldwide.

Part of the Carnival owner’s representative site team, based at Chantiers de l’Atlantique, St Nazaire, France, overseeing and surveying the construction from steel cutting to delivery of Cunard’s Queen Mary 2. Area of responsibilities includes liaison with shipyard and Lloyd’s Register, public space and cabin inspection, steel work, piping and general machinery, sea trials and machinery harbour acceptance trials, tank closures, removal routes/lifting eyes, watertight integrity and fire insulation. Represented owner during final MCA inclining trial.

Transferred from Yarrow Shipbuilders to join the ship structures department of Baesystems PCO Type 45 project, developing the new MoD Type 45 Anti Air Warfare (AAW) Destroyer to Lloyd’s Register Naval Ships Rules. The department is responsible for producing all the structural drawings in association with the production department, for submission to LR prior to contract award to shipbuilders. Special responsibility for project managing/coordinating all major machinery seat design including gas turbines, diesel generators and electric propulsion motors. Additional area of responsibility included being part of the Finite Element Analysis team producing the local FEA models for both fatigue and structural analysis in Femgen modelling program, analysed using Abaqus

Senior structural naval architect based in the ship design department of Yarrow Shipbuilders working with a team supporting the construction of three 97m Offshore Patrol Vessels. Specific areas of responsibilities involve calculating scantlings and producing design sketches of equipment seats for incorporating in to a 3D CADDS 5 hull structure production and subsequent construction support
