As an environmental engineer for Tahoe Donner Association at Lake Tahoe, California, I was responsible for maintaining environmental quality within an area that is subject to some of the most stringent water quality regulations in the entire United States. Work included waste water management, Hazardous materials clean up, monitoring compliance with California codes, fire prevention, and erosion control.

As Site Manager, I was responsible for all aspects of sinking a 12.5m I.D shaft using the jacking method to a depth of 36m in dry chalk with heavy flint intrusions, as well as the coordination of all site activities at Lloyd Park at Croydon. This shaft was sank using an electronically controlled 12 jack system. I was also responsible for temporary supervision for a 3m I.D EPB TBM, using ZED guidance control system.

As the Engineer for a series of sewage remediation schemes, I was responsible for all set out, asbuilts and quality assurance. Schemes included laying new pipelines and installing new manholes and filter screens.

I worked as a Senior Engineer for two 2.82 I.D and two 4.15 I.D Lovat TBM drives for the power lines underground scheme for the 2012 Olympics in Stratford, London. These EPB machines were responsible for 12km of tunnel. As Site Manager for these sites, I undertook responsibility for every aspect of the works which included 2 shafts that were sunk in Portslade, 6m I.D and 7.5m I.D at 14m deep. Also, a 6.5m I.D shaft was constructed in Ringmer. These were built using the underpinning method and included all ancillary works, such as benching out, management and organisation of subcontractors, ordering of consumables and hiring/off hiring plant and equipment, pipework, and ground reinstatement.

As Tunnels Agent for pipejacking operations, I was responsible for every aspect of the works which included 2 shafts that were sunk in Portslade, 6m I.D and 7.5m I.D at 14m deep. Also a 6.5m I.D shaft was constructed in Ringmer. These were built using the underpinning method, and my responsibilities included all ordering and ancillary works, such as benching out, pipework, and ground reinstatement.

This was a 1.4 km, 2.8 I.D Lovat TBM drive. I answered directly to the Project Engineer, and my responsibilities covered all aspects of the tunnel drive including guidance, toolbox talks, gas monitoring, shift reports, and asbuilts.

The main tasks I undertook during this employment were in relation to the building of the Ravensthorpe Nickel plant. This primarily entailed concrete works and storage tank construction. It included bolt positioning, as-constructed surveys and control networks. While undertaking this employment, I gained further experience in all types of works related to subdivisions including the construction of pre-cast concrete structures.

During this brief contract, Carlson software was used primarily in conjunction with a geodometer total station. A top con hyperlight GPS was used on occasion during this period. While working as part of this small team, I gained further experience in slope staking and setting-out for roads and services.

While working as a Surveyor on this BHP Billiton project, I gained further experience in GPS use and learned Carlson software. Responsibilities included batter staking, all set-out works (Roads, Services, Earthworks), as-constructed pick up, and working out volumes of concrete, plastic, etc. During this time, I also worked on a tailings dam lift at Emily-Ann Gold Mine which strengthened my knowledge of this kind of work and environment.
