  To undertake chemical analysis by approved company methods and procedures.To ensure the efficient day to day operation of the chemical working arrangements by assisting with the daily supervision of the work of the Assistant Analysts / Analysts to include checks on quality and timeliness against set standards and service levels.To be actively involved with the Quality section of the laboratory to promote and encourage a quality culture within the department. To adhere to the requirements of the UKAS Quality Policy as described in the Quality Manual.Using information and data on samples, determine whether the results produced are valid and form decisions regarding certification and instigation of further actions.To be involved, as necessary in the training of Assistant Analysts / Analysts and to ensure that all appropriate paperwork has been completed.Instigate investigations and documentation on discovering or being made aware of anomalies within the laboratory methods and operating procedures and report actions to a Section Leader as soon as possible. Reporting of results to internal and external customers, interpreting and explaining results and answering customer queries as required.To cover for Section Leaders as required during leave and sickness periods to promote and encourage succession planning.To participate in projects and method development within the department as directed.To participate in a stand-by rota for provision of an emergency service out of hours.To comply with Security and Health & Safety procedures and to promote awareness of such issues within the team.To maintain ongoing competence in line with DWI competent analyst requirements in the form of the CPD folder. To undertake such other duties as required within the broad purpose of the job.
