As part of the finance integration team, we were responsible for laying the groundwork and developing the vision for the future of the newly merged finance organization. Together, the two companies identified key priorities for integration and defined the path forward. I played two roles 1. a member of the Finance Integration Management Office (FIMO) leadership team and the specific lead for the work streams of the closing, consolidation and reporting/external reporting teams, which is one of the most impacted finance teams in any merger or acquisition.The Backbone Project was a transformational effort to lay the foundation for the finance organization to become a best-in-class company. The project came to fruition because of recurring themes and pain points across the finance organization: an aging systems infrastructure held together by fragmented knowledge, and the need to move away from spending time digging through data to becoming an effective partner to the business. The first wave was the integration of the legacy general ledger system into a new SAP S4 Hana general ledger, planning, and reporting tool, in which I led the chart of accounts and validation workflows to create a single, consistent language for finance across the organization.
