One of my favorite classes in college that I had the pleasure of taking was Database Systems Concepts. This class taught exactly what the title of it hints to; database management systems, architecture, design, queries, applications, administration and implementation. What truly caused me to cherish this class was what I had learned and realized after I finished it, how impactful the use of data can be.Data is important. It allows you to see how you can improve your life, how you make decisions, and how to back up arguments. It enables you to be strategic in how you approach problems, set baselines and understand how to achieve your goals.Through the time after Database Systems Concepts, I have been able to utilize my love for the value of data. From tutoring these concepts to others, to creating spreadsheets to help people learn their habits and set goals, to using my knowledge to benefit the world and people around me professionally, I have learned that effective utilization of data can be an invaluable asset to anyone and any business or organization. After graduating Liberty University with a degree in Software Engineering and Web & Mobile Development, I have continued to develop my passion for data and Computer Science to not only allow people to see the stories that their data tells, but also to utilize those stories to benefit these people moving forward. I’m able to use this through a multitude of ways. So far, I have a running knowledge of SQL, Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Java and more. In addition, I’ve worked on supplementing my knowledge by starting to learn React and MongoDB. As I continue to explore and learn new languages , frameworks and principles, I hope that I can utilize what I know to use data and help people around me.
