The backstory…Following ten years in a Chartered Accounting firm, David joined the staff of Greening Australia (Australia’s largest environmental Not-for-Profit), moving from finance to general management and leadership roles over the following fourteen years.During this time David was promoted to CEO by the Board and spent four of those years leading the organisation during a its transition from government contract funding, building new and novel operations including Australia’s first biodiverse carbon offsets business, Australia’s largest biodiverse sandalwood plantation, and a high-net-worth major gifts fundraising campaign.David’s time with PIA …In 2011, Kirsty Kelly as PIA’s newly appointed CEO recruited David into the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO). The two worked closely together over the next six years to build PIA into the organisation we see today. Over that time David guided the introduction a raft of governance changes under the auspices of PIA converting to company limited by guarantee. In parallel, Kirsty and David moved rapidly to gather a high quality team and drove and lived the OnePIA staff culture.As COO, David took on the challenge of correcting PIA’s volatile financial situation. In stark contrast PIA now has strong financial reserves, a good profit trend and sophisticated financial management system.Equally important, Kirsty and David worked together to craft a clear set of purpose statements for PIA. Whilst today, these statements of “high quality planners, high quality planning, and outstanding member services” seems unremarkable – at that time there was little to guide PIA’s direction. Now the organisation has the necessary operational focus and discipline.In the last few years David has overseen the establishment of Registered Planner, including the on-line portal and assessment standards and tools.
