I am a newly qualified teacher who has a strong passion for science. Although my degree specialises in secondary biology education, I am a confident teacher of biology, chemistry and physics up to KS3 and KS4 with capability of delivering KS5 biology lessons to A-level students. I have been working for a supply teaching agency (The Classroom Partnership/Connex Education) since graduating university and now I desire to develop my teaching skills further within a mainstream school. Many of my assignments while working with an agency have involved working with children who are not suitable for teaching within a mainstream school due to SEN and emotional and behavioural disorders (EBD).This has allowed me to develop a number of key skills which are applicable to mainstream settings such as;Behaviour management: Due to the disruptive nature of the students I have spent most of my teaching career educating I have been able to employ a number of behaviour management strategies in order to maintain focus and ensure progress within a classroom. This includes using positive praise techniques as well as having clear expectations and sanctions which are enforced in every lesson.Friendly and approachable: I feel that this is a vital quality for any person who works with young people. While working with Launchpad KS3 PRU I took on form tutor responsibilities for a small class which required me to assume a much more pastoral role. This role demanded an intimate knowledge of the appropriate safeguarding policies and procedures.Differentiation: I have gained a lot of experience teaching classes with mixed ability groupings. This has allowed me to be able to take a subject within science, break it down into its key concepts and design differentiated resources for these concepts. Although I have thoroughly enjoyed working in EBD settings, I now wish to develop my PPD within a mainstream school and establish myself as part of the ethos of the school.
